Today we will visit historic Minnesota railroad sites operated by the Minnesota Transportation Museum, and plenty of transit subjects will be included on this tour.
One stop will be the MTM's historic trolley operation along the shores of Lake Harriet in South Minneapolis. Here you will have the chance see two fully restored streetcars and a fully restored PCC from the Twin Cities Rapid Transit Company's fleet. One or two of the cars will be in service for demonstration rides. With a bit of luck you should be able to see and ride a restored bus or two that replaced the streetcars.
The second stop will be the Minnesota Transportation Museum's ex-Great Northern Jackson Street roundhouse. Here you can see the MTM's three steam engines in various states of repair, an unrestored CB&Q Doodlebug, GN400 - the first EMD SD-45 locomotive, Dan Patch Lines #100 - one of the first internal combustion locomotives known to exist, and much much more.
Here’s your opportunity tour the shops of the country’s newest light rail line. We’ll spend about an hour at the brand new light rail shops located on the site of the Milwaukee Road’s coach yard, home of the original Hiawathas.
Meet the Officer's Reception
Come and meet the National Officers of the NRHS. Here's an opportunity to express your ideas about the organization and meet the leaders face to face. Cash bar.
The night photo session bus will depart at 9:30 PM for the night photo session to be held at the Jackson Street roundhouse. Steve Barry of Railfan and Railroad magazine will do the setup and lighting for the group.
As of June 27th, all events on Thursday are available EXCEPT the afternoon MTM tour and Night Photo Shoot which are both sold out.
